Chicago Trip part 4 - Grant Park

The last of the Chicago pictures. We couldn't leave without first stopping by Grant Park for some obligatory Grant Park/ "bean" pictures.

Chicago Trip part 3 - John Hancock Tower

I don't have a fancy enough vocabularly to explain the amazingness of these views, so pictures will have to do.

Green roofs make me super happy.

This is my computer background. :)

Chicago Trip part 2 - Walking the City

My favorite thing about big cities is that you can walk everywhere... so that is what we did!

I'm an urban planning student so I read a lot about bike share systems, but this was my first real-life sighting! It made me happy.

This is at Ohio Beach

I had just taken a picture of the couple (with their camera) before they took this of us. I have an originally 800$ DSLR, but they had a 150$ point and shoot. But they were rich and from Philly thus not used to polite midwesterners, so when I offered to take their picture (like we and many always offer when we see people awkwardly trying to take pictures of themselves) they hesitated and said yes, but then the woman was like "don't steal our camera!!" Ohhhhhhhhhh lady. I laughed and patted my giant camera on my shoulder and then tried to politely say "My camera is quite nice, you don't need to worry." Wow. Reminds me why I could never live amongst east coasters!

I thought this was flattering.

I wish buildings still had intereresting detail like this Egyptian scene!

The Water Tower is gorgeous

My inner child was so happy! My husband saw my face light up and said "Okay, let's go in.. but just for a minute!!" It was many minutes.
I really wish they hadn't retired my girls (Felicity & Kirsten!) I'm really not feeling thier new line up. Samantha is gone too!

Why do they even need to dye this river green on st. patty's day!? It's already green!

Everyone loves public swim-fountains!

Family cycle!

When I was a kid my dad had a speedboat and I sent all my summers until I was 11 boating on the Colorado River. Thus, all water & boats make me very happy! It's probably why Chicago instantly became my favorite city.

Love it!

I still have some pictures from the top of the John Hancock Tower (GORGEOUS views!) and the famous "bean" still to share. I also got a pretty new bike which I need to take some show-off pictures of soon. Our toddler seat is (hopefully) getting fixed so I will show it off after that. It makes it a lot easier to get Killian to daycare in the morning (we usually walk)!

Chicago Trip part one - The Hotel

Last weekend my in-laws were awesome enough to take Killian for the weekend and gift us with a free night at a hotel, so J and I took a 7 hour drive up to Chicago for our second anniversary! I've always wanted to go Chicago, but never have been able to. Thanks to a great hotwire deal, we got to stay in the 4 1/2 star Sofitel right in the heart of downtown. It was definitely the fanciest place we've ever been in! And, because I have this strange fascination with hotels, pictures of our nice room get their very own post!

They "Bonjour!"-'d us when we came in. We were like... hiiiiiiii.... Not that we don't know any french, we just aren't used to fanciness!

Nevermind the red carpet and pay attention to that bed. The most GLORIOUS bed, EVER!
I love the bathroom. Took my first bath since I was pregnant 2 years ago!

That mirror light is genius. For the first time in my life I didn't have bags under my eyes! I need one!

You know it's fancy when there is an expensive pet menu!

Showing how cushy the bed is. I had to push down hard to get the camera to see over the fluffy down comforter.

It was a nice view. I forgot to take a picture of the little corner fountain and park that was right below our window.

The best part of the room was that when we came in that night after a day of sight seeing, our bed had been remade, the lights were dimmed, and there was romantic music playing! We were seriously impressed!

Moral of the story, if you are debating a 50$ difference in staying out by the airport (where you'd have to catch a ride into town anyway) or paying more to be right in the heart of it and walking distance to everything like we were- do yourself a favor and take the nicer option! There are no brownie points for avoiding a little luxury every now and then!
